Formula 1, IndyCar and NASCAR are being dominated by the favorite team-driver combo: Mercedes’ Bottas (FIN) and Hamilton (ENG) have won the first two F1 races; Scott Dixon (NZL) won the first three IndyCar races for Ganassi Racing, and Kevin Harvick (USA) has already won four races for Stewart-Hass Racing as he leads the NASCAR Cup.
But a new generation of drivers under 23 are challenging their domination. This weekend, Rookie Cole Custer (USA, 22) passed four cars on the last lap to take his maiden NASCAR Cup win. In IndyCar, Patricio O’Ward (MEX, 21) dominated the Elkhart Lake race until being passed by Ganassi’s Felix Rosenqvist (SWE) -which had a better tyre strategy- to take his first win for Ganassi. The McLaren driver had taken his maden Pole Position earlier that day by edging out Colton Herta (20, USA) and Rookie Alex Palou (23, SPA), who took his maiden podium one day earlier.
In F1, fellow McLaren driver Lando Norris (ENG, 20) currently sits third in the standings after finishing 3rd and 5th in the first two races, with last lap passes on each. Charle Leclerc (MON, 22) made a big mistake yesterday but he finished second in the opening race and Max Verstappen (NET, 22) finished third yesterday.
The Champions for this year might be an easy bet but the young guns that are the future of the sport are keeping motorsport fans excited.

Ferraridisastroso. Charles Leclerc (MON) had to apologize after he rammed into teammate Sebastian Vettel (GER) on the first lap of the Styrian Grand Prix, making them end in the last two places. While Mercedes made a 1-2 followed by Red Bull’s Verstappen, it was Racing Point’s Sergio Pérez (MEX) who took the spotlight by coming back from 17th to fight for the 4th in the last lap, finishing 6th after a contact with Albon (Red Bull, THA). Renault has protested the legality of their car, which Racing Point defends (Autosport)
Cole Custer was on the pace throughout the race. He only needed to lead five laps -the first in his career-, including the last one, to take home the first NASCAR Cup Series win for a rookie since 2016, and the first on a full race since 2007.
Custer took advantage of a last lap battle three-way battle to pass them all and beat them.
