World Sport Performance Report

What?

The World Sport Performance Report by The Sportspedia is a first of its kind report that will compare the sporting performance of sportspeople and team within over 150 sports and over 1,000 sport competitions for the year 2020.

The Sportspedia has designed a method of Benchmarked Critical Assessment in Sport with quantitative and qualitative variables for each of the categories that have been selected for this year’s report.

Why?

  • To promote positive values and highlight -within a world of excessive information- the performances that deserve to be highlighted.
  • To keep a historic record of the performance that push boundaries in sport each year.

When?

The 2020 report will be released February 2, 2021.

How?

There are three main factors that will be considered: Competition faced, Historical significance of performance, and Excellence in performance.

Each of these three main factors will have sub-variables that might change depending on the specific category for which the performance is being assessed.

For example, to determine the World’s best Sportsperson there will be over 40 variables under consideration:

  1. Competition faced
    • 32 variables analyzed, including the level of competition faced within the sport, the global participation within the sport, the tournaments’ competitiveness, the number of world-class performers faced, constraints to facing the best, unified competition, etc.
  2. Historical significance of performance
    • 5 variables analyzed, including World-Class records achieved, historically-compared placing of performance, the period of existence of elite competition within the sport, etc.
  3. Excellence in performance
    • 7 variables analyzed, including win rate, success in different disciplines, Grade I wins, dominance duration, dependance on others, etc
    • Competition faced

Moreover, there will be four more categories which will be part of the report but which will not be assessed with a numerical study but rather through an holistic exercise of critical thinking that will consider the aesthetics, emotional appeal, performance excellence and other factors.

Three of these will be chosen by The Sportspedia and one more, “Moment of the year” will be selected via an editorial vote with the partners in our study.
