Caeleb Dressel (USA) had a historic goal today: to break the 20-seconds barrier in the 50 meters freestyle (swimming, short course) but he was unable to acheieve it.

The Sub20 Challenge by Speedo was an attempt with the Speedo LZR Racer, a high-technology swimsuit that was banned from official competition by FINA following the 2008 European Short Course Championships, when 17 World Records fell.

Caeleb is fresh from breaking the 50 meters short-course World Record with 20.16 at the International Swimming League but his attempts as unveiled today were of 20.41 and 20.42 -all covered without breathing-, as released by Speedo International on their YouTube Channel.

This might seem as a disappointment but Caeleb said he was there to have fun. He undoubtedly is still the best swimmer in the world and recently broke the 100 butterfly, 100 Individual Medley, the 4×100 free and the aforementioned 50 freestyle Short Course World Records
