Another sport star has contracted covid-19: Kento Jomota (JPN), Badminton World Champion, tested positive in a test at Tokyo-Narita Airport, prompting Japan to pull out of the Yonex Thailand Open and the Toyota Thailand Open, the first world-class badminton tournaments of the year.

Momota also had a bad start to his season last year. After winning the Malaysia Masters, he suffered a road accident on the way to the airport that resulted in a broken nose. He would not compete for the rest of the year due to the covid-19 outbreak.

Momota is one of Japan’s many hopes for gold medals at the Olympic Games to be held this Summer.
