This week’s Global Podium for the best sportspeople in the world features US Women's Water Polo, Ryan Crouser and Karolina Pelendritou.

The Sportspedia’s Global Podium features the three sportspeople/athletes or teams that best achieved excellence in performance last week with their milestones and results.

Gold: United States of America Women’s Water Polo Team

Team USA won its 14th FINA Women’s Water Polo World League Super Final -7th in a row- out of 17 editions of the tournament. They won their three group stage games and then went on to beat Japan (20-6), Russia (17-8) and Hungary (14-8) en route to the title.

Silver: Ryan Crouser

Crouser, Olympic Champion, broke the Shot Put World Record that had stood since 1990, set by Randy Barnes (USA) in 1990, two years before Ryan was born. His 23.37m mark was set at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

Bronze: Karolina Pelendritou

(Cyprus, Para Swimming)


The 34 year-old broke 3 World Records in 2 categories at the Para Swimming Wold Series in Germany, in her first competition classified as S11, as her sight has gotten worse. Her World Records and gold medals came in the 50m Breaststroke SB11 (36.55 seconds, then 36:13) and the 50m Freestyle (30.20 seconds), both golds achieved within an hour.
