The Athletics Integrity Unit has issued a Provisional Suspension to 2017 Long Jumping World Champion, Luvo Manyonga (ZAF) due to “Whereabouts failures”, meaning he would tentatively be forced to miss the Tokyo Olympic Games, due to take place this summer.

“Whereabouts failures” usually relate to when an athlete cannot be found in the location that he/she indicated would be reachable for a doping test. Usually these types of violations carry a two-year sentence however the sanction to Manyonga could be increased to four years because he has already been suspended for a doping violation in the past (for a recreational drug).

Manyonga has his best form after serving his doping suspension. He won the silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games and the gold medal at the 2017 World Championships, although he finished fourth in the 2019 World Championships.
